Final Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This week, I only finished one book, but wow, what a book it was. The Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory by Tim Alberta earns a solid five stars from me. That said, I have to include a caveat for my readers: if you are easily offended by critics of Donald Trump, this may not be the book for you. However, if you are a Trumpkin who is willing to take a hard look at the damage that has been done to the church in the name of “Conservatism”, it’s worth a read. Alberta makes it abundantly clear that he holds no love for Trump, and he does not shy away from critiquing the former president’s influence on American Christianity.
But here’s why I think this book is so important: Alberta methodically unpacks the growing idolatry of Christian nationalism and how it has reshaped conservative evangelicalism. Through personal experiences and accounts of real events, he paints a picture that is both compelling and deeply troubling. Some of the stories he shares are so mind-boggling they feel almost surreal.
At its core, The Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory is a wake-up call to the Church—especially to those in conservative circles. It challenges readers to reflect on whether their faith is truly rooted in Christ or if it has been co-opted by political ideology.
If you’re looking for a thought-provoking and deeply personal exploration of faith, politics, and the dangerous fusion of the two, I highly recommend giving this book a read.
